Fecal Exam for Cats

Fecal examinations can reveal potential digestive issues from diarrhea to worms in the stool.

A fecal exam can be a crucial part of diagnosing many medical problems. Some potentially transmissible infections can be detected and help protect your family.

How is a fecal parasite screen done?

We perform a two-part fecal exam: a smear and a float. A smear involves examining the stool directly under a microscope. A float involves a special solution to help separate the eggs from the feces after high-speed centrifugation.

Cat stool sample instructions?

Please bring in a fresh stool sample in an airtight container. If you can’t collect a fresh sample, it is recommended to store the sample in a sealed container in the refrigerator overnight.
